Hi, I’m Tom Loop.

 

I’ve been working on training for a triathlon, it’s in fact, an iron man triathlon, in about another four months or so.
What I found during the course of this training journey is really an amazing improvement in my mind, of my ability to train and withstand that training over the past– just the most recent few months. For one thing I used to get very sore when I would do a run and now what I’ve discovered though, is that I don’t get sore at all, actually, even within just a few hours after a run. I do a run now every day. I’ve been training regularly every day – several hours a day – and my whole physiology, I think, has changed – really to my amazement. I think it’s due to the amount of training but certainly due to the stretches to the body work that I have been working on as well, trigger point training. I think the foam rolling has been very helpful as well.
The real surprise to me, also, is that given my age of 50 you’d think that this kind of thing might belong to someone who is more 10-15 years younger, that one should always get sore at this point; but to my great surprise I feel better than I ever have. I feel fitter than I have ever been in my life and I thought I was pretty well fit before. But at this point, I have also made another realization that I can foresee myself having even a much greater improvement than what I have now. And my runs, swims, and bike rides are much faster and they continue to surprise me as to how I’m able to forestall that period of tiredness and increase that duration and stamina. I’m quite pleased with this training program right now and I look forward to continuing it.
